Meet the Trainer

Sam - Founder and Head Trainer

Hey there, I'm Sam!

I have been a professional dog trainer for over 10 years and am incredibly passionate about helping dogs and their owners to have the best possible life together. Having spent many years working with dogs with behavioural struggles, I truly believe that the key to preventing or overcoming those issues lies in clear, kind communication. I will teach you all you need to know and have your back as you implement it, every step of the way. I will always want to hear questions and ideas and last but certainly not least, my door is open to people from all walks of life. No matter your race, gender, sexual identity, or religion. You are welcome here.

That pretty much covers the important information. But if you’d like to know a bit more about how I got here, read on.

I may have been professionally training for 10yrs but my journey really began when I was just six years old. Back then, I had a sweet, good-natured Labrador who patiently played the role of student as I tried to teach him every trick and skill I could dream up. That early spark of curiosity and love for training never left me.

Since then, becoming a dog trainer has always been my goal. I completed a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology to deepen my understanding of animal health and behaviour, and over the years I've had the privilege of working with a variety of incredible dog training companies. One of the most formative experiences in my career was studying under an exceptional behavioural vet, where I discovered the powerful role a behavioural trainer can play in supporting both dogs and their families. I’ve been hooked ever since.

In 2018, I completed the Pro Dog Trainer course with Absolute Dogs, and I’m committed to ongoing professional development so I can ensure the training I offer is not only kind and effective, but backed by the most up-to-date knowledge available. Continued education is something I genuinely love—it keeps me inspired, sharp, and always improving for the people and dogs I work with.

One of my proudest achievements was developing and implementing the socialisation program for Guide Dogs Queensland. It was incredibly rewarding to help shape confident, well-rounded dogs who would go on to do such important work.

After my time with Guide Dogs, I returned to my true passion—behavioural training. I’ve always loved the variety it brings and the opportunity to work closely with clients to make a meaningful difference in their lives and their dogs’. That passion inspired me to launch Friends for Life Dog Training in 2022—a place where I could bring together my experience and love for working with both dogs and their people to help them build strong, lasting partnerships.

Whether you're tackling puppy basics, working through reactivity, or building solid social skills, I'm here to support you every step of the way.

Together, we'll navigate the training journey at your dog's pace with compassion and kindness.

I can't wait to meet you and your dog and help you build the kind of strong, trusting bond that truly makes you friends for life.
